Cooking activities can be an exciting time for the children. Learning to cook helps children to learn about nutrition and healthy eating. Create family time and bonding. It's a great way to learn life skills. Our holiday camp offered children opportunities to experience cooking. Practice creativity and imagination. Cooking activities are a great way to express themselves and enjoy their creations. The best part of a cooking is that they can eat everything they learn. Before the cooking lesson, children were taught basic rules include: * keep hands clean while preparing food * emphasize safety with knives and equipment * clean utensils and pans before they start. * wipe up spills * place utensils and bowls in the basin * clean up the place when they have finished cooking First we started off with cooking something simple without using knives. On the first day of the holiday camp, the children made egg sandwiches. We boiled the eggs first. When the eggs are cold, we gave them to the children. The children took the hard-boiled eggs, shelled them, added two tablespoons of mayonnaise. The eggs were crushed with a fork and mixed together with the mayonnaise until pasty. They took slices of bread, spread the eggs onto the bread and yummy they had a delicious snack! Making banana pancake was another simple recipe to follow. First the children put a cup of flour into a bowl, added a tablespoon of sugar, two teaspoons of baking powder, half teaspoon salt, an egg, a cup of milk, and two tablespoons of oil. The children hand mixed all dry ingredients together in a bowl. Then they poured all wet ingredients into dried mixture and mixed them well. Each child, used a small scoop poured the batter into a heated non-stick frying pan. Cooked the pancake on low heat until lightly browned. Placed them on the plates and enjoyed the banana pancakes YUMMY! Holiday Camp cooking activities are a great way to learn life skills! During the two weeks holiday camp, children learned simple way of making snacks such as: * Cornflakes cookies * Pandan Steam Cake * Fresh Fruit Juice * Mini-Pizzas * Banana Pie * 'Chapati' (flat Indian bread ) Children love to cook, and the classroom provides a wealth of opportunities for them to do so. Cooking is a good reinforcement of learning of life skills. While many subjects, units, topics and events can easily incorporate the use of cooking in the classroom, cooking blends particularly well with math, literature and science.
