Celebrating Hari Raya and Merdeka Day

26th August 2011

Creetings Parents and Guardians,

We take this opportunity to wish all our Muslim parents and families "Selamat Hari Raya Aidilfitri" and to all Malaysians 'Happy Merdeka Day." Though officially it has been postponed to 16th Sept. to coincide with "Malaysia Day."

During month of Ramadan, some of our older children also observe the fast.  Instead of making pizzas, pancakes, sandwiches, fruit or vegetable salads etc. They usually eat the food after cooking.  We decided to teach them to make Hari Raya Chocolate chips and Cornflake cookies.  We hope parents enjoyed the cookies your child/children brought home from school.

The children have great enthusiasm in cooking, creating art and craft, science experiments, indoor and outdoor activities. Simply because these activities provide opportunities for them to explore, solve, and discover. And engaging and interacting with friends, fostering fun learning adventures.

Cooking gives your children plenty of interesting sensory experiences.  The sense of touch- knead dough to make pizza, tear lettuce leaves, squeeze fruit juices, make vegetables salads... The sense of smell - tuna, jam, or egg sandwiches. Best of all they enjoy the food they make and have fun eating together.

Learning to Cook is a valuable skill, children can use for the rest of their lives. Parents involvements teach them important life skills that involve working confidently and sharing responsibilities. Giving your children a deep sense of satisfaction and build their self-confidence.

Cooking with your children at home has long-term benefits too. It encourages your children to eat healthy foods. And you can spend quality time with your children. So next time try involving your children in meal planning, shopping, and food preparation.

Your children are more likely to sit down to a family meal when they helped prepare it. They  will feel like they are accomplishing something and contributing to the family.

Parents play a dominant role in motivating your children to become successful learners. Children's participation in sports, art and craft exhibitions, holiday camps, field trips, concert etc. enhance your children's self confidence and broaden their interests. Learning becomes an adventure.

Preparing for Raya Celebration- Children and teachers had their  classrooms beautifully and colourfully decorated for Hari Raya. The children made art and craft mobiles, Raya cards and a  "Peace Tree" with multi cultural works of art hanging on the branches to celebrate the spirit of "Hari Raya".

The older children designed their own cards to give to their friends. They also made the Malaysian flags for "Merdeka Day." Children sang Selamat Hari Raya songs. They revised the character topics - manners, respect, obedient... We discussed about the danger of playing with fire crackers and other safety rules.

The school will be celebrating Hari Raya on the 9th Sept. with a sumptuous feast and fun party. Children, siblings and friends are invited to join the party. There will be games and  lots of Raya delicacies to take home.

Concert Pracrtice -Sept. will be a busy month preparing for our 28th Annual Concert. The theme this year is "The Rising Stars." As its name implies, relates to our multi- talented children as ‘stars.’ The Concert features the best-loved fairytales, cultural dances, songs, poems, integration of music and drama.

All the children as young as two plus to six years old, have  the opportunity to develop their  creativity.  The performance is designed to be engaging, exciting, and fun, with great music that is chosen for its appeal to all children.

We have seen young children gain confidence, while learning to sing, dance and act and most importantly having fun!  Our goal is to ensure that all children have the opportunity to experience the performing arts (concert) so they can develop their social skills. Learn to work cooperatively as a team.

You'll be impressed and amazed by their talents.  We give credits to our dedicated and talented teachers. They choreographed the dances, sourced for the music and designed the costumes. The concert success is the result of team works with parents, children and teachers.

The 'Rising Stars' will be the MCs, show hosts, presenters,  narrators, dancers, singers, and performers. Everyone has an important part in the Concert.

The children have already started practicing. They study and have their lessons as usual, only now they have lesser time to play. We are confident the children will be ready for the Concert and Graduation Day.

Once again we would like to thank all our parents for your continuous support, friendships, confidence and trust. There is nothing more rewarding than cultivating and educating our young  generations.  We look forward to meet you and your families on our Concert Day as well as the Open Day. We'll be delighted if you can bring along your friends, we value your  kind support.
